There have been reports in the news about health complications linked to harsh chemicals in personal care products, specifically body powder.
Here is a scary article about using body powder “down there”.
Note: after you view how to make it, scroll below to find out why I chose these particular ingredients.
DISCLAIMER: While I do recommend, and have myself used this blend for years, do your own research and use at your own risk.
OK … now ditch those harsh chemicals and let’s make some body powder!
- Using the canning funnel, fill a quart-sized glass canning jar 1/2 full with Arrowroot Powder. Note: If using Essential Oils in your mixture, add 5 drops now and mix well.
- Add approx. ¼ cup Zinc Oxide Powder and Mix Well.
- Fill the remainder of the container to about an inch of the neck with Arrowroot Powder. Note: If using Essential Oils in your mixture, add 5 drops of Essential Oils and mix well.
- Put the lid (Parmesan cheese shaker lid) tightly on the jar and label. I have included a link (above) for shaker lids that fit on regular mouth canning jars. But to be honest, I reused an old Parmesan Cheese lid and it works great!
HOW TO USE: Open shaker side of the lid and shake out amount needed on to your hand and apply. Apply to dry skin. Reseal container. Store out of direct sunlight.
If your skin becomes dry over time with continued use, simply take a day off, then resume your regular usage schedule.
Why did I choose Arrowroot Powder?
Arrowroot absorbs oils/sebum beautifully and is also promotes natural healing as it penetrates the skin. Rubbing some into skin before bed and in the morning can reduce oil production, soften skin, and dry out/heal blemishes. It reduces odors, moisturizes the skin, and helps to eliminate toxins.

Why do I add Zinc Oxide?
Zinc oxide is widely used to treat a variety of skin conditions, including dermatitis, itching due to eczema, diaper rash, and acne. It is used in products such as baby powder and barrier creams to treat diaper rashes, calamine cream, anti-dandruff shampoos, and antiseptic ointments.
