The Day We Met Johnny Depp … sort of

It was a warm day back in October of 2007, my birthday in fact.  My Hubby, daughter with her friend, youngest son, and I, all took a trip to Washington, DC. A new attraction had opened, and we had discount tickets for that day only.

As usual when we visit D.C, we parked just inside the Beltway and took the Metro into the city.  If you have never visited D.C before, I recommend taking at least a full day to walk about and explore.  Wear comfortable walking shoes as the Metro is the best way to get around. Dear Mr. Spider …

While I sat innocently at my desk, working and taking care of business needs, you felt it was acceptable to drop down from a web. Not in the corner of my office, where you MAY have remained safe for the evening. Not behind me, where you MIGHT have remained unnoticed, as I was quite immersed in my work. But instead, you drop down in FRONT of me and touch my face; my nose specifically.

That horrible noise that alerted all of my neighbors that I had indeed stopped working and something “horrific” had happened, was as you guessed, directly related to your presence. You extended your long slender legs and as I so “gracefully” stood up from my chair and attempted to untangle the “miles of web” that I felt encasing me, you (seemingly without a care in the world) disappeared into either my black desk chair or the dark rug beneath. DIY Almond Milk Recipe

Almond Milk is an excellent substitute for use in baking, with morning coffee, or as a general dairy alternative, in a low carb/keto lifestyle.  Do you use it?  It is a fabulous choice!

Many commercial brands are less than ideal though.  One popular brand on the market contains the following ingredients:

ALMONDMILK (FILTERED WATER, ALMONDS), CONTAINS LESS THAN 2% OF: VITAMIN & MINERAL BLEND (CALCIUM CARBONATE, VITAMIN E ACETATE, VITAMIN A PALMITATE, VITAMIN D2), SEA SALT, NATURAL FLAVOR, LOCUST BEAN GUM, GELLAN GUM, ASCORBIC ACID (TO PROTECT FRESHNESS).

CONTAINS ALMOND. Continue reading “DIY Almond Milk Recipe”

Quick and Simple Decluttering Tip – Turn your Hangers

Many of us need to declutter and organize our homes and belongings.  This is an ongoing project for me.  I choose an area to declutter and get busy deciding what items to keep, and what items I am ready to let go of, (trash, donate or sell).

This decluttering project is a quick one, even if you have a huge closet with lots of hanging items.  Not a lot of time? Do just one hanging section for now.

Organizing Tip: Always declutter first (before trying to organize), so you are not simply rearranging stuff you have kept for far too long. Continue reading “Quick and Simple Decluttering Tip – Turn your Hangers”

Parenting Adult Children … and Beyond

I was thrilled when each of my three children was born.  Each a joy and each with their own set of challenges, while raising them.  No two children are exactly alike and my three are each very different in many ways.  They are all caring, intelligent, and I am proud to be their mom.  But as they have grown into adulthood, I sometimes find it hard to “parent” my adult children. We recently tried a recipe from Kendra D. Holley’s  Craveable Keto Cookbook, pg. 102-103

6 servings
5 g net carbs per serving

I followed the recipe as written, but substituted the baby bella mushrooms for the cremini, as I had the bella on hand. Continue reading “Cheesy Chorizo Breakfast Bake – Recipe Review from Kendra D. Holley’s Craveable Keto Cookbook”

DIY Wool Dryer Balls – Ditch the Toxic Fabric Softener

Who loves using fabric softener and the way it makes your laundry smell? I used to! These days, it actually irritates my sinuses when I lay on sheets with heavy smells. Plus, over time, fabric softener gunked up my laundry and the washer itself.

Once I discovered that it was the fabric softener that was causing my issues, I moved on to dryer sheets.   No help! These still caused me problems with sleeping on heavily scented sheets.

What to do?

I discovered wool dryer balls! And so, why not make it a DIY project? Continue reading “DIY Wool Dryer Balls – Ditch the Toxic Fabric Softener”

Cleaning Out that Kitchen Junk Drawer

Junk drawers … most of us have at least one.  I have usually had a kitchen “junk drawer” with odds and ends that I SWEAR I will keep organized, with only the essentials that are needed.  Yeah, well …

"Kitchen Junk Drawer 01 | www.stephsneckofthewoods.com"

I am not the sole person responsible for the junk, I assure you.  Other family members tend to use this drawer as a “shove-all” space.   I tend to use it as a “current project” space.

If we are doing a repair on the sink, reversed osmosis spout (which seems to need constant repair in my household) or some similar project, I tend to keep the tools, caulk, adhesive, putty knife, cutting blade, etc. handy, and in that drawer.  But then, it stays, long after the project is complete.  Guilty!
